Misdemeanor Charges

There are two main groupings of criminal offenses in North Dakota and Minnesota: felonies and misdemeanors. Out of these two offenses, misdemeanor is the lesser severe crime. Misdemeanor cases are often similar to felony cases. They carry the same offenses, just in different levels of severity. These offenses include vandalism, assault, battery, larceny, theft, trespassing, and others.

In North Dakota there are two classes of misdemeanors, a Class A misdemeanor and a Class B misdemeanor. A Class A misdemeanor is more severe than a Class B misdemeanor. It punishable by a $2,000.00 fine and up to 365 days of jail time. A Class B misdemeanor is less serious than Class A. This type of misdemeanor is punishable by a $1,000.00 fine and up to 30 days in jail. Misdemeanors are typically crimes that are punishable by less than one year in jail. However, if the charged has committed multiple offenses at the concurrently this statute can be surpassed.
