Law Firm Announces Filing of Complaint Naming Priest, Diocese of Fargo

diocese of fargo announcement

The law firm of O’Keeffe O’Brien Lyson Attorneys of Fargo, ND announced at a news conference Thursday afternoon (7/11/2019) the filing of a complaint in Cass County District Court naming Michael Wight – a Catholic priest, The Society of the Most Holy Trinity and the Roman Catholic Diocese of Fargo as defendants in a case whose plaintiff is a Rolette County woman. The firm is working with Minnesota attorney Mike Bryant.

The complaint details various charges of physical, sexual and psychological abuse over a period of approximately six months. Upon being reported to the Diocese, Fr. Wight was allegedly immediately sent to a community in Texas.

The plaintiff appeared and spoke publicly for the first time at the news conference. In this action, the legal team hopes to cause the Diocese of Fargo to disclose a list of known offending priests and for the state of North Dakota to open up the statute of limitations so that offenders can no longer be shielded from civil penalties.
